The project leverages the complementary expertise of the research units. Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI) and the PI of the project are experts in data and information quality, in particular in quality assessment and in developing pipelines for scientific data and social media analysis. University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE) contributes with expertise in data preparation, based on semantic-based approaches. UNIMIB provides competencies in data sharing and annotations. University Sapienza (Sapienza) has a significant expertise in data visualization and exploration.

The Information Systems group is known at the international level for its work on data quality, adaptive information systems, service-oriented computing, energy efficiency, and social media analysis. Expertise in Green IT and social media analysis is also based on European projects such as FP7 GAMES, FP7 ECO2Clous, and H2020 Crowd4SGD. Starting EU Projects are CS-AWARE-NEXT on adaptive analysis pipelines for cybersecurity and TEADAL on the federation of data lakes. The group also coordinated large National projects such as FIRB MAIS and PRIN Quadrantis related to adaptivity and quality in information systems. Polimi coordinates the project, participates in WP1, WP2, and leads WP3.

Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia

UniMoRe’s DBGroup research group participating in the research started working on data management topics in the early ‘90s and has been investigating data preparation for more than 20 years. The research is devoted to the Big Data Integration Research Area to unleash the full potential of heterogeneous massive data sources (e.g., data lakes). The main topics we are investigating are: scalable entity resolution with human-in-the-loop and machine learning and big data integration for renewable energy management. The DBGroup was involved in and coordinated several projects, like the PRIN project WISDOM, the EU FP5-IST project SEWASIE, and the FIRB project NeP4B.

Sapienza Università di Roma

The Sapienza unit is internationally known for its work on visual interaction, visual representations, information visualization, visual analytics, human-in-the-loop-based big data analysis. On these topics, the unit has been involved in several EU projects, e.g., Smart Vortex, Panoptesec, Panacea. Sapienza has also a relevant background in data quality issues, including both methodological work and specific contributions to instance reconciliation techniques. Sapienza participates in WP1, WP3 and leads WP4.

Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca

The INSID&S Lab at UNIMIB has been working on AI-based solutions for data management, dedicating special attention to interactive methodologies. The lab has been active in several European research projects in the domain of data enrichment and interoperability (enrichMyData – just approved in Horizon Europe 2021-2027, EW-Shopp and euBusinessGraph – H2020, SIERA – FP7, and SEEMP – FP6), as well in several national projects. The lab has deep expertise in building semantic profiles of data sources (ABSTAT tool/methodology), the semantic interpretation and enrichment of non-semantic data (MANTISTABLE and ASIA tools/methodologies), and representation learning. UniMIB leads WP1 and participates in WP2.
